14oz wrought iron head heat treated 1060 cutting edge.
Tomahawk style friction fit 14” hand made ash handle with a ferric nitrate / linseed oil finish.
The small square axe as it was referred to in the Hudson Bay company and Northwest trade Company ledgers from the 1700s. It is a historically accurate replica of the Hudson Bay axes that descended from the Biscayne axe these country made axes were made at the Hudson Bay Northwest Company forts. The small hatchet size would’ve been the precursor to the modern Hudson Bay, but retains the friction fit handle of the biscayne axe and has the addition of a square pole, which can be used for hammering intense steaks, or the steaks for a beaver trap .
You can break this axe down By removing the handle from the head and pack it away in your kit safely. My model this one after a small cast-iron version, a friend asked me to repair. He used it for breaking down deer and other camp chores, but it would also be perfect for making kindling around the campfire, cutting poles and stakes from small trees.
Photos are the actual axe you will receive, and it will ship promptly.
Contact me if you want to add a leather sheath, The style of handle does not work well with an overstrike protector.
