This axe takes its name from the trappers that harvest fur in the forests of North America.
They require a small light hatchet that can trim small trees in the preparation is various “sets” this axe is equally at home in your back pack for prepping firewood around camp.
Taking details from a historical Hudson Bay Axe found on the shore of Lake Abitibi this is my modern interpretation. The bottom line angle, the hot chiseled notch and then projecting the bit out to a 2- 1/2 inch cutting edge.
The handle is fine and feels right in the hand, and is treated to a special period correct finish and good soak of double boiled linseed oil.
The specs;
1-1/3 lb head hand forged from tool steel
20” handle is standard, message me if you want 16”
1900’s style palm swell copied from period samples
Check my other product pages if you want a leather mask with solid brass hardware or an overstrike protector lashes with paracord.
This is an able chopper up to the task of limbing dead fall across the portage trail or splitting firewood with a short enough handle to make it easy to portage on your back country adventures. Each one is made to order so allow four to six weeks from time of order before I get them in the post.
